Personality;

This free-spirited young lass is the first born descendant in the DunBroch clan. It's hard to pin this one down. She's adventurous and ready to take on the world, like any medieval sixteen year old would! She's been seen climbing the Fire Falls to drink from the waters the ancient kings did, or riding her horse, Angus, through the forest shooting arrows. And she's very brave! Not only shown when she climbs an open cliffside to get to the Fire Falls, but many more times throughout the film. When her father is attacking a bear that is REALLY Merida's mother, she doesn't hesitate to fight him off.

Merida is a little bit of a tom boy. ... and by little bit, I mean, holy crap she is such a tom boy. 100%. Her mother is constantly telling her how princesses should act, but... Hah, good luck. She still comes in and puts her weapons down on the dinner table. She's quite obviously very athletic and very capable of butt kicking with both sword and bow.

The bow is something very important to Merida. She usually has one with her, regardless of what her mother says. But her skill speaks for itself. She's got some mean aim and has split an arrow in two before.

And oh is she stubborn! Whether it's digging her heels in about having an arranged marriage or fighting her father while he mistakenly attacks her bear-mother, Merida knows a thing or two about being stubborn. At several points in the movie, Merida is pushed into a situation she digs her heels in on. Mostly having to do with selecting a suitor. Oh boy does she throw a little fit about that!

Merida's defiance mostly comes in during the games to pick a suitor for her. After all three suitors made their shot, this defiant little bugger decides to shoot for her own hand, taking an ancient tradition and punching it in the face. Even though her mother forbade it, Merida takes the shot to prove a point. (Stubborn much?) Coupled with this defiance and stubbornness, Merida is also a typical sixteen year old. She's rash at this point in her life. She doesn't want to wait and be patient, she wants to charge on, head first.

Ah what a fiery dame she is! This package also comes with an automatic sass feature that can shame any suitor! In fact, during the games for her hand, Merida makes little sass comments, and her father plays RIGHT along with her. At least we know where she got it from. Or telling her mother she "doesn't speak bear" when she's getting growled at for having weapons on the table.

Merida truly is a kind girl. Her little brothers play a big role in this. Whereas she says they get away with murder because of how devious they are, when haggis is served for dinner, she sneaks in a plate of desserts and slides it under the table for them. She shows kindness in other ways, but that one by far speaks the most to me. Even though they get away with so much more than she ever will, she still is a great sister to them.

I feel I should touch on the relationships with her family. Like I said,s he cares deeply for her younger brothers in a way a big sister should. She has a fantastic relationship with her father, considering she is so much like him. Her relationship with her mother is a little more strained, mostly because Merida feels like she doesn't listen to her at all. Her comments fall on deaf ears a couple times in the movie. She still loves her mother, but it's just strained. From this canon point at least!

Perhaps her most important trait is at this point in her canon, she is struggling between royal duty and wanting to be free. To make her own choices. Merida feels like there will be no freedom for her if she is forced to take a marriage. It comes off a little overdramatic, but during the film, she says she doesn't want her life to be over yet. This not only shows her adolescence, but beyond that, getting married solidifies the "princess duties thing" that she dislikes to much. Merida is no interest in that at this moment. She really doesn't seem interested in love at this point in her life.

[It has been running a while, this feed. At first, all that could be seen was a huuuuuge bit of curly red hair, then a Scottish lass staring at this bracelet, quirking an eyebrow.]

So this thing's supposed t'give me some sort'a power, huh? Speed, if I read that guide right... Not sure I believe it, but stranger things 'ave happened in the world. [She pauses. Like... That one time... she turned her mom into a bear.]

[Like what was happening not five minutes before coming here! Merida suddenly looks panicked and begins the daunting task of.. well.. asking anyone and everyone she can if... they've seen a bear.]

[Quite obvious, this is not going as well as she'd hoped.]

No, no, I mean a real bear! With th'teeth and fur? Like... What! Have y'never seen a bear before? [Apparently! With how many people are responding with confusion to her questioning!

Someone has to have seen her! Y'can't miss a bear! [She can't have gotten far, right? Oh goodness, what if she's slipped back into real!bear, not Mom!bear! :c It would be all her fault!]

Mum? Mum! Och, where are you?

Log Sample; It's the weirdest thing... The last thing she remembered was slipping down in the ancient kingdom. There was some dust and debris and suddenly... here she was. In this city. With some weird bracelet, and people telling her the gods brought her here. Honestly, Merida is convinced she's hit her head or something. There's no way this could honestly be real, right?

... Then again, she did just accidentally turn her mother into a bear. So stranger things have happened... When she finally does step outside, she can't help but gaze around in wonder. Sure, her town was decent sized, but a good majority was the castle.. This.. This was huge in comparison! So many people and places to look and see and she can't help but be a little excited at the thought of it.

"I guess this's one way to get out'a gettin' married," she mumbled to herself. And then it hits her. Her eyes widened--wait, wait, if she's stuck here like they said... then her mom's doomed to be a bear forever. Panic suddenly rises, and Merida does the first thing that comes to mind--run around and ask anyone and everyone she sees if they've seen a bear anywhere around here.
